Moments that Matter in July

This month Abby had her very first school excursion. A huge milestone for us. Its so crazy to look back at how far she has come. Considering 2 years ago I could even get a babysitter or family member to look after her. I didn't even think I would get her to go to school let alone an excursion! Now she is off in leaps and bounds, going for sleep overs, loving school and taking on new challenges with great courage. I'm so used to her making me anxious about leaving her that I still have thoughts in the back of my mind, what if she isn't ok? What if she needs me? However I am getting used to pushing those thoughts aside and allowing my new brave little girl take on the world head on. Click through to see what matters to Yana Klein this July.

Let Kids be Kids. While editing these photos from after an afternoon playing out in the backyard. Abby looked over my shoulder. She scrunched up her nose and said she looks like a boy.

I replied ' What makes you think that?'

She observed ' I have bruises on my legs, no clothes on and I'm all dirty like a boy.'

I looked at her and thought hard.. ' You know who I think you look like?'

'who?' giving me a puzzled look.

I smiled and replied ' Abby.'

Don't get me wrong, Abby loves her horses, dress ups and adornments of pink terrible things. But she also loves to play outside, wrestle with the dogs or her mates. Isn't afraid to get dirty and is very comfortable with her body.

These stereotypical assumptions that girls like pretty things and boys like to be grubby not only start to define how children identify themselves. They are offensive to both genders.

Documenting Childhood | Family Documentary Photographer

  Every week we have ballet so thought I'd take the time to capture this weekly ritual. Abby will wake up and have breakfast of her choosing. This morning she decided Peanut butter by the spoonful was appropriate (she gets that from my husband not me I swear). I also decided to hand over my camera and let her take a few shots from her perspective, not bad either! Which was nice to be included in documenting this day as I normally am behind the camera in all our family photos.

After ballet we normally get lunch a coffee and a baby chino. In the middle of summer its Boost Juices, regardless. we treat ourselves. I am so glad to have taken the time to do this, while Ive been taking time to notice the little things about this day, Ive come to realise its so short lived.  Abby will be going to school and our little lunch dates will be few and far between. Something Ive been taking for granted.

Whimsical and Mysterious | Children's Photography Sydney

This was a session that happened just by chance! I wanted to scout a new location and little miss here was not very impressed with it. There was scrub and leaves to walk over and bugs and ants. I promised her we would go somewhere much more appropriate for her delicate self next time round. Last year we had a mid year holiday to get away from it all. We chose Warrick Resort,along the Coral Coast which proved to be very family friendly and we had a ball. The food was great, the people were fantastic. Everything was just perfect. Fiji is such a beautiful place.

This session took a wild drive all the way out to Wilberforce, Penrith in the western Sydney Region. It was all worth the drive to meet this divine little Adelaide in her own little rustic world out at her rural home. The family was staying at their Family's home on a short holiday away from Germany and were taking the chance to get some family photos done. I hope to see them again one day on another family visit to Sydney.

Culburra Beach Family Photography Sydney

We have a holiday home down the South Coast. Its such a peaceful place. A short walk down the road and we have Culburra Beach at our door step.  Not the best for swimming all year round but we still enjoy a walk along the beach. I love visiting here. Its so grounding. A reminder to slow down and appreciate the small things. to sit on the sand with a blanket and watch the waves. smell the salt air and just be present.
