So the holiday season is coming up and this baby is due to arrive any moment now. So it is time for my baby shower and my wonderful Mummy put it together for me and made this adorable cake in a whimsical forest animal theme. Ive been joining in on a lot of personal projects lately as a way to help document my family's journey and also to help with some personal growth and development with my photography work. The experience has been a real challenge and pushed myself to think outside the box.A challenge in particular was putting myself in front of the camera. What on earth can I document about myself? Who am I and what are things that speak about me? I pushed through these creaive blocks and have started to realise just like anything else, I just need to document the everyday, just as I have been, but rather than stopping and pooping behind the camera. Stay involved and allow myself to be present in the frame.
So that has been my focus. Right now my life is pretty simple. I am pregnant with my second child so thought it was a good opportunity to document this changing phase in my life. It has been challenging though, our health has not been the best this year with myself suffering sever morning sickness and Anemia, to cold and flu season and my daughter having food intolerance troubles. However Ive managed to stop and think about appreciating the small moments and pick up my camera. Ive been watching my belly grow, doing things to help myself feel better, like sleep and lots and lots of hot showers. Reading birthing books recommended by my lovely doula in between the daily life of a mum and my photography work.
This is just the beginning and I will keep up the documentation and keep you all posted!
Sometimes when you sit back and actually watch what children are enacting out in play, you realise how much of it comes from what the environment they are immersed in. I was oblivious to the role play going on in the background of my little bubble. While I was working, completely consumed by what I was doing and it wasn't until I glanced over my shoulder that I realised what kind of play my child was absorbed in. I am so glad I did, because this is will be a precious memory I will hold dear forever. Whisking up my camera, I witnessed Abby acting out being a pregnant mummy out shopping with a child in tow. She was pretending to be me. Listening to her pick out her shopping list, she chose Mangoes, strawberries, broccoli, spinach and chips haha. Things that are regular items on our list.
The scene stung my eyes, with emotional buttery pregnancy hormonal goodness as I thought I never, ever want to forget this. It also made me think about her mood swings most likely a reflection of my own hormonal moodiness and low tolerance during this pregnancy. My conclusion? Hold them close. Hold them dear, they are our own reflections until one day they want to grow up and be their own.

Louise and Jason are proud parents of these two adorable little girls, Mia and Daisy.
What better way to show off your children than with a family photography session? Mia was just adorable, completely smitten with me and wanted to hold my hand most of the time. This is why I love my work. I get to meet the most loveliest families and their delightful children.
Mia wanted to share her dancing and piano skills and little Daisy was just happy being in her own little universe. I also snuck in a moment to get some romantic shots of Mum and dad as a couple, which I think is really important. I love to remind my clients to take a breather and be with each other.
A moment to capture their connection as a reminder of why they are here today. Life is so fast paced and I like to remind them of this.
Introducing little Braxton Jay Lago, born 16/10/2015 6.8 lbs. Braxton and his mumma had a really rough ride bringing him into the world. Very inspiring to see how truly strong women are and the right of passage motherhood is. Hayley and Daniel are first time parents and its clear that they will treat little Braxton with tender loving care. Congratulations to you both.

Over September, Janine Harris from White Salt Photography set a challenge for many of us Lifestyle/documentary photographers to participate in a personal project - a photo a day for all of September. I had never participated in one before but had always wanted to. A busy life and other priorities I thought it would be too difficult and boring. My life really is not that interesting. However I have learned that is part of the challenge, to pick up the camera during those mundane moments, that actually really aren't that mundane. They tell a story. They give insight to who we are as people and a family. Not only that it made me start thinking about experimenting with light and different perspectives while taking advantage of a moment. It truly has ben a learning curve and I would encourage any photographer interested in personal growth and development to try this challenge regularly. Introducing the Block Family! How special it was to meet this adorable family. The bond between these sisters is easy to see. We spent a sunny spring afternoon together at Centennial Park. The two little ones, Lara and Mia were so mature and carried themselves in a such a lovely manner, if only all children were so easy to photograph!

Annika and Josh are expecting their first child in a few weeks! I had the pleasure of meeting this young couple and having the honour of documenting this exciting time in their lives. Every week we have ballet so thought I'd take the time to capture this weekly ritual. Abby will wake up and have breakfast of her choosing. This morning she decided Peanut butter by the spoonful was appropriate (she gets that from my husband not me I swear). I also decided to hand over my camera and let her take a few shots from her perspective, not bad either! Which was nice to be included in documenting this day as I normally am behind the camera in all our family photos.
After ballet we normally get lunch a coffee and a baby chino. In the middle of summer its Boost Juices, regardless. we treat ourselves. I am so glad to have taken the time to do this, while Ive been taking time to notice the little things about this day, Ive come to realise its so short lived. Abby will be going to school and our little lunch dates will be few and far between. Something Ive been taking for granted.
